Emerging Artists Show, Rockport Art Association, July 2024

Life is in no way linear.

After receiving my Masters in painting, I put my brushes down to pursue a career in graphic design and marketing. Nearly forty years later, in April 2022, I picked my brushes up once again and returned to painting.

Since then, I’ve produced canvases on a regular basis and my work has been selected for several juried exhibitions, including shows at the New Haven Paint and Clay Club and the Rockport Art Association, and a number of paintings have sold. This website represents the work, all oils on linen canvas, that I have completed since returning to the easel as well as a method to broaden exposure to my art.

My work has always been representational in nature with a healthy dose of editing. I paint subject matter that speaks to me, with an eye towards shapes that reflect light and shadow, positive and negative. That subject matter often is captured in buildings and figures occupying those spaces, and always there is a sense of solitude, even in renderings that include groups of people or figures at work. My work is consistently intended to capture a feeling, a mood, a fleeting moment in time, at once familiar to the viewer.
